About Us
Anois (Gaelic for "now") is a Dutch band playing poetic Celtic music. Eerie elflike vocals on a tapestry of velvety harp sounds and haunting tin-whistle tunes characterize the music of this octet.
Anois was founded in the winter of 1996 and is based around the vocals and compositions of lead singer Veronica Metz. Sources of inspiration are Deanta, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Clannad and the literary works by J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and Emily Brontë (Wuthering Heights).
Tolkien’s masterpieces 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' Tolkien include a lot of poems meant to be sung by elves, dwarves, hobbits and men. Veronica set a large number of these poems to music and although record companies were enthusiastic about releasing the album Anois ran into a brick wall of copyright issues…
Another inspiration emerged when she visited, rather by chance, the Brontë parsonage in Haworth, Yorkshire, (now a museum) in which the Bronte sisters (Charlotte, Emily & Anne) lived. There she found out that Emily, beside the novel 'Wuthering Heights', had also written many beautiful poems. Since 2005 some of these poems have been set to music by Veronica, Wym and Gert-Jan.
Our CD “Emily Brontë” containing 14 tracks was released on April 19th 2009. You can order the CD by clicking on: listen to our music or go directly to the orderform.
